5-14 Thumbs

May 15, 2008 - 6:18PM

UP
Thumbs up to the mayor and his department heads for the monthly meetings at firehouses. They are informative and allow the public to ask questions and carry on discussions with our civic leaders.

Thumbs up to Computer Solutions on 4th Avenue. My laptop had lost four screws from the bottom of the case and was nearly falling apart. I tried to find something at an electronics store and they referred me to Computer Solutions. The people were very friendly and they replaced my missing screws and wouldn't let me pay for them. I was sure I would have to pay something for their time and the parts, but the gentleman that helped me said not to worry about it. What a great sign of kindness he showed to me with no expectations. I know in the future if I need to buy any parts or have service done where I can go now! Thanks.

Double Thumbs Up to Southwest Motor Co. owner Jeff Heimann. He goes way out of his way to accommodate and please his customers. Never visibly gets upset, even with sometimes difficult customers, like us. Thanks again Jeff, for being so considerate. Wish there were more folks like you in the world.

UP AND DOWN
A big thumbs up to the Staples store on Catalina and 4th Avenue. I went in to look at computers and had no problem getting help immediately. Then I had problems with the computer and took it back and they bent over backward to help me, got me a replacement, and on my way quickly. They also took time to explain things to me and help me. When I returned it on Monday we had a sudden rainstorm and lights went out. As I was standing outside waiting for the lights to go back on, a gentleman asked me about the problems I was having and took time to explain what might have caused them.  A big thumbs up to him as well.

A big thumbs DOWN to the other big-box electronic stores. Before I went to Staples I went into those stores. At one, I looked around at the computers and no one, but no one, offered to ask if they could help me, nor did I see any one around that I could ask.

The other one, I went in and same thing. There were a few salesmen standing around the cameras with some women who were looking at them. But no one asked if they could help or if they could get me some help. But a thumbs up to the gentleman who DID help me at Best Buy the next day when I was looking for speakers and software. He deserves a raise as he took time to explain things and show me where to find them. The others really should not be working if they are not going to give service.

But a Thumbs Up for the El Centro Best Buy. I have never gone into that store, no matter how busy they were, that I was not immediately asked if I needed help or if they could find some one to help me, sometimes more than once.

DOWN

Thumbs Down to people who don't have enough smarts to wear their seat belts and then wonder why they are ejected and severely injured during rollover accidents.

Thumbs Down to our back door neighbors who insist on letting their yappy dog bark after 10 p.m. and on into the wee  hours. Why is it they don't hear their dog barking and I'm the one who gets my sleep interrupted?

Thumbs Down to the parents who park in the turn lane to the parking lot entrance while waiting to pick up their children from school. It blocks traffic going into the military housing, the buses trying to get in, and other parents trying to get into the parking lot to get their children. If there is no traffic coming the other way and you go around them there are many parking spaces available. Either the parents or the children are too lazy to walk an extra few feet so the parents wait there until the cars are gone to park up front. If there were to be an emergency vehicle trying to get to the school or the housing it would take them the same 20 minutes to get through as it does us. Have some consideration and follow the traffic laws!
