AWC-33.10 Poetry Contest
A verse or two could be worth $100,
If you can prove your skill at being a word scholar.
To celebrate National Poetry Month during April's days,
AWC, 33.10, YAC are teaming up to offer a verse fray.
Be it jingle, sonnet, stanza, lyric or ode,
You can write your poem in any mode.
The official rules are written down below,
Follow them closely to be eligible to win some dough.
OK, if you can't follow that, here's the lowdown: The AWC Creative Writing Department, the Yuma Arts Center and 33.10 are sponsoring a community-wide poetry contest during April to celebrate National Poetry Month. The contest is open to all Yuma County residents who can write (that's preschoolers through old age). First prize will win $100 and the top 10 poems will be published in 33.10.
Second and third place winners will each receive a 2008 membership to the
Arizona Authors Association and other assorted 33.10 prizes (T-shirts,
coffee card, movie passes to Main Street Cinemas). For questions about
prizes, please call Amy Crawford at 539-6863.
Poems will be listed online at www.3310online.com starting on May 1 and
residents may vote for their favorite for the "reader's choice" award,
which will be revealed at a poetry reading at the Yuma Fine Arts Center on
May 8 at 7 p.m. in the West Gallery.
